Let's start:

Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812-1870) was a British writer whose notable works are Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities, David Copperfield etc. During his life time and even in present times, his works have always enjoyed great popularity and he is generally regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian period. The present text is an adaptation from his popular short story The Magic Fish Bone.

চার্লস জন হাফাম ডিকেন্স (১৮১২-১৮৭০) ছিলেন একজন ব্রিটিশ লেখক, যার উল্লেখযোগ্য রচনাগুলি অলিভার টুইস্ট, এ ক্রিসমাস ক্যারোল, টেল অফ টু সিটিস, ডেভিড কপারফিল্ড ইত্যাদি। তাঁর জীবনের সময়কালে এবং বর্তমান সময়েও তাঁর রচনাগুলি সর্বদা দুর্দান্ত জনপ্রিয়তা পেয়েছে এবং তিনি সাধারণত ভিক্টোরিয়ান আমলের সেরা উপন্যাসকার হিসাবে বিবেচিত হন। বর্তমান পাঠ্যটি তাঁর জনপ্রিয় ছোট গল্পটি দ্য ম্যাজিক ফিশ বোনের একটি রূপান্তর।

 Let's read First Part:

There was once a king, and he had a Queen.

একবার এক রাজা ছিলেন, এবং তাঁর একটি রানী ছিলেন।

They had several children.

তাদের বেশ কয়েকটি সন্তান ছিল।

Alicia was the eldest, who looked after the other children.

অ্যালিসিয়া ছিলেন সবচেয়ে বড়, যিনি অন্যান্য বাচ্চাদের দেখাশোনা করেছিলেন।

The King was, in his private profession, under the government.

One day, the king was going to the office when he stopped at the fishmonger's shop.

He needed to buy a pound and a half of salmon which the Queen had requested him to send home.

He had not proceeded far after finishing his shopping, when the fishmonger's errand-boy came running after him.

He said, "Sir, you didn't notice the old lady in our shop. "What old lady?" enquired the King. "I saw none." Now, the King had not seen any old lady because she had been invisible to him, though visible to the fishmonger's boy.

Just then, the old lady came trotting up! She was dressed in shot-silk of the richest quality.

ঠিক তখনই, বৃদ্ধা মহিলাটি ধীরগতিতে এসেছিলেন! তিনি সবচেয়ে সমৃদ্ধশালী শট সিল্ক পরিহিত ছিল।

"King Watkins the first, I believe?" "Watkins," replied the King, "is my name."

"Papa of the beautiful princess Alicia?" The old lady asked.

It instantly flashed upon the king that she must be a Fairy, or how could she know that?

With those words, Grandmarina vanished.

The King went on and on, till he came to his office.

There he wrote and wrote and wrote, till it was time to go home again.

Days went by.

দিন কেটে গেল।

One morning, the King came into Alicia's room.

একদিন সকালে রাজা এলিসিয়ার ঘরে ঢূকলেন।

He was sighing heavily, and seemed low spirited.

তিনি ভারী দীর্ঘশ্বাস ফেলছিলেন, এবং মনমরা মনে হয়েছিল।

He sat down miserably, leaning his head upon his hand, and his elbow upon the kitchen table.

তিনি তার দু'হাতের উপর মাথাটা রেখে  বসে পড়লেন, হেলান দিয়ে নিজের কনুইটি ছিল রান্নাঘরের টেবিলের উপরে।

Alicia asked, "What is the matter, Papa?" "I am extremely poor, my child," the King replied.  

অ্যালিসিয়া জিজ্ঞাসা করল, "বাবা কী ব্যাপার?" "আমি অত্যন্ত গরিব, আমার সন্তান" রাজা জবাব দিলেন।

"Have you no money at all, Papa?" Alicia enquired."

বাবা তোমার কি আদৌ টাকা নেই?" অ্যালিসিয়া খোঁজখবর নিল।

"None, my child."

"কিছুই নেই, আমার বাচ্চা।"

"Is there no way left of getting any, Papa?"

"বাবা কি আর পাওয়ার কোন উপায় নেই?"

"No way," said the King.

"কোনও উপায় নেই," রাজা বললেন।

"I have tried very hard, and I have tried all ways."

"আমি খুব চেষ্টা করেছি, এবং আমি সব দিক দিয়ে চেষ্টা করেছি।"

When she heard those last words, the princess Alicia began to put her hand into the pocket where she kept the magic fish-bone.

"Papa," said she, "when we have tried very hard, and tried all ways, we must have done our very best?"

The princess Alicia embraced her.

Grandmarina turned to the King then.

"I suppose you know the reason now why Alicia did not use the fish-bone sooner?"

"আমি মনে করি আপনি এখন কারণটি জানেন তবে কেন অ্যালিসিয়া তাড়াতাড়ি মাছের হাড় ব্যবহার করেননি?"

The King made her a shy bow. 

রাজা তাকে লাজুক ধনুক করলেন।

"It only remains," said Grandmarina in conclusion, "to make an end to the fish-bone."

So she took it from the hand of the princess Alicia, and it was instantly grabbed by the little snapping pug-dog next door!
